STAGE I FIRE RESTRICTIONS WITHIN RAVALLI COUNTY
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Ravalli County, Montana, passed Resolution 3353 on March 21, 2016, which established a local fire season in the County, and Resolution 3413 on June 30, 2016, which restricted open burning in the County; and
WHEREAS, with multiple fires active in the region and a continued forecast for hot and dry weather, the threat of new fire starts that are resistant to control has created a substantial hazard to the citizens of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Commissioners wish to place further restrictions on certain activities within county lands;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, at the request of the Ravalli County Firewarden, the following Stage I fire restrictions will be in place on all private lands in Ravalli County, effective at 12:01 am, Tuesday, August 9, 2016:
The Following Acts Are Prohibited Until Further Notice:
1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire unless noted in the following exemptions:
a. Persons with written authorization from the Ravalli County Commissioners that specifically authorizes the otherwise prohibited act.
b. Persons using a device solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding materials within three feet of the device.
c. A fully attended residential campfire or charcoal briquette barbeque, not to exceed 48”, for the purposes of food cooking as long as a continuous water source is present.
d. Persons conducting activities in those developed recreational sites or designated areas where the activity is specifically authorized by written posted notice.
e. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
3. The use and ignition of fireworks and pyrotechnics.
