Who Can Request a Birth Certificate
Montana law allows a certified birth certificate to be issued only to:
Father (if listed on the certificate)
Grandparents (with proof of relationship)
Caretaker relative, guardian, an authorized representative, or those who provide documentation showing it is needed for determination or protection of the individuals personal or property rights. Proof of relationship, guardianship, caretaker relative, or authorization is required to obtain a certified copy of a birth record. Download a request form.
Uncertified (informational) copies can be issued for births that have occurred 30 years prior to the date of the application. In Ravalli County we still need to know the relationship of the person requesting the copy.
